초, 중, 고등학교를 거쳐오면서 우리는 자연수, 정수, 유리수, 실수, 복소수의 순서로 ‘숫자’의 개념을 확장해 왔습니다. 그런데 이렇게 익숙하게 사용해 온 숫자들은 본질적으로 어떻게 정의되는 걸까요? 이번 세미나에서는 아무것도 없는 세상에서 시작해 자연수, 정수, 유리수, 실수, 복소수로 이어지는 수 체계의 확장을 수학적으로 다시 살펴봅니다.

이번 세미나를 통해 숫자가 단순한 계산 도구가 아니라 세계를 더 넓고 정교하게 다루기 위한 사고의 확장이라는 사실을 느껴보시길 바랍니다.

Abstract

"To create complex numbers from nothing."

As we progress through elementary, middle, and high school, we expand the concept of “numbers” in the order of natural numbers, integers, rational numbers, real numbers, and complex numbers. But how are these familiar numbers fundamentally defined?

In this seminar, we will begin from a world with nothing and mathematically revisit how the number system expands step by step—from natural numbers to integers, rational numbers, real numbers, and finally complex numbers.

Through this seminar, we hope you will come to see that numbers are not merely tools for calculation, but an expansion of human thought that allows us to understand and describe the world in a broader and more precise way.
