초록

"무작위와 무한의 관계로 살펴보는 무작위와 확률 이야기"

무한은 수학의 수많은 영역에서 떼놓을 수 없는 매우 기초적인 개념인 동시에, 제논의 역설 등 수학의 역사에서 여러 성가신 일들을 일으킨 문제적이고 위험한 개념입니다. 이런 무한이 무작위라는 개념과 연결되었을 때도 마찬가지로 유한에서와는 다른 현상들이 발생합니다. 평범해 보였던 문제의 풀이방법들이 결과의 불일치로 이어지고, 일어나야 할 일과 일어나지 않아야 할 일들이 뒤섞일 수도 있습니다.

이 발표에서는 무작위, 특히 무한과 관련된 무작위와 확률에 대한 이상하고 흥미로운 점들을 확인하고, 관련 문제에 대한 오해에 대해서도 다뤄볼 것입니다.

Abstract

"Randomness and Probability Through the Relationship Between Randomness and Infinity"

Infinity is a fundamental concept that appears throughout mathematics, yet it has also been a difficult and sometimes troublesome idea since antiquity, as seen in examples such as Zeno’s paradoxes. When infinity is connected to randomness, we encounter phenomena that differ significantly from finite cases. Methods that look ordinary can lead to inconsistent conclusions, and events that should happen and should not happen may seem to overlap.

In this talk, we examine strange and interesting aspects of randomness, especially those involving infinity and probability, and discuss common misunderstandings around related problems.
