Abstract
“Numerical PDEs have a great grip”
This seminar introduces the Finite Element Method (FEM), a numerical approximation method for PDEs. First, taking the one-dimensional Poisson equation as an example, we examine the derivation of the weak formulation, the construction of finite element spaces, and the discretization process into a linear system. Next, based on Sobolev spaces and the Lax–Milgram theorem, we summarize the variational framework for uniformly elliptic PDEs. Finally, combining Céa’s lemma with interpolation estimates, we derive the convergence rate under the assumptions of solution regularity and mesh shape regularity.
