Abstract
Infinitely layered equalities, and how to work with them
In mathematics, the notion of equality, x = y, is defined as a relation satisfying reflexivity, symmetry, and transitivity. But what if we allow distinct equalities α: x = y and β: x = y? What about an equality γ: α = β between these equalities? And what about equalities between equalities between equalities, and so on?
In this talk, we explore several situations in which such higher-dimensional equalities become necessary, then introduce fibrations and (un)straightening as tools that bring them into a unified framework and make them amenable to computation.
